About Us

Hi, Bob Cavanaugh here. Thanks for taking your time to evaluate The Estate Preservation Advisor.

This site is going to give you a different perspective on many of the planning issues you face. I just celebrated my 36th year in the financial and estate planning business. I have over 20,000 documented face-to-face interviews with folks just like you. This means that when I write or illustrate a particular planning technique, chances are I have worked with the concept in real life with one or more of my clients. I am aware of the concerns, the sticking points, the objections, the questions and the methodology needed to implement the plans.

Over the years, to keep things interesting, I have worked in a number of markets. Initially I built a clientele of about 400 attorneys. Then I went on to work with business owners with their business continuation, executive fringe benefits and retirement planning needs. I spent few years working in the qualified plan arena installing pension, profit sharing and 401(k) plans. Most recently I have been working with retired persons helping them preserve their assets and deal with the whole new gamut of financial planning issues seniors face.

Categorically, I have worked in the areas of taxes, employee and executive benefits, qualified plans, estate planning, charitable planned giving, long term care, annuities, IRA distribution planning, and post-retirement financial planning.

The reason I am outlining all of this is that I am in the process of filling the web site and newsletter with many of these topics.

But here is the most important aspect…

Most of the time, the people who I have worked with were unaware they had one or more particular problems. My job was to question the person about what their situation was, what they were attempting to accomplish and what they had done so far. In the process, problems were generally uncovered that would get in the way of their accomplishing their objective. Other times, I was able to give them a better solution.

So, as you read through the contents of this site, you are likely to have some significant “aha’s” when you trip on a solution to a problem you just discovered you have.

I think this is what I bring to the table.

Here’s my background, presented in a format as if I were applying for a job. In a sense I am. I would like The Estate Preservation Advisor to be one of your sources for planning information that may be new to you presented in an understandable format.
